OUR STORY

OUR STORY

Westley's Wish K9 Rescue was born to honor a dog named Westley who so profoundly touched peoples lives. Westley was a white bulldog rescued from unimaginable neglect and abuse, who came to us broken, sick and dying. We knew there was something special about him, something unique.

To know Westley was to love him. He had a gentle, forgiving spirit and a gigantic heart that brought comfort and calm to everyone he met. With the support of the community, we were able to heal him to the point where he was ready to go to his forever home. On the eve after what we thought was his last hurdle, his last surgery, on an unseasonably cold and snowy April night, our Westley had a bigger journey planned -- over the rainbow bridge.

As it turns out, he had an undetected cancer that took his life away so unexpectedly and tragically. As he took his last breath in our arms, we promised him that, in his memory, we would create a legacy so befitting someone as special as he was. In his name, we have saved hundreds of dogs -- and will save thousands more. Westley is with us, through every rescue, every happy moment and the sad ones too.  In his name, our mission is rescue; our wish is that one day we won't need to.
